Sunstone Navigation and Counseling Services

A cancer diagnosis presents many challenges, and cancer care and support offer tools to address them. The Navigation and Counseling Services social worker will help you navigate these choices and find answers to some of the difficult questions that come up during these incredibly tough times. She will meet with you, learn your needs, and develop an individualized care plan.

You and your family are not alone; Sunstone is here to help you empower yourself to make thoughtful decisions and to give you the support to carry them out.

Here’s how our Social Worker will help you:

  • Provide crisis counseling/intervention when you are feeling overwhelmed and frightened
  • Help you get answers within the health care system about which treatments are best, and how to speak to your doctor, surgeons, and health care professionals
  • Provide information on financial issues, housing, and transportation
  • Assist you with legal paperwork––Power of Attorney for Health Care, Living Wills, etc.
  • Help to open up dialogue between family members and health care professionals
  • Help you get answers to questions about treatment options
  • Serve as a navigator and referral source to other Sunstone services
  • Provide community resource information

Counseling for Survivors and Family Members

Sunstone Cancer Support Centers has teamed with local licensed professional counselors to provide three no-charge counseling sessions to cancer survivors and their family members.

If you are experiencing depression, anxiety, or other mental health issues that are being exacerbated by the diagnosis of cancer, please call to set up an appointment.

When you call, you’ll be asked some questions, after which you will be assigned to a counselor. If sessions are needed beyond the three complimentary sessions, arrangements are made privately with your counselor.

Sunstone-affiliated counselors meet with you at their private offices, and are located throughout the greater Tucson area.

Counselors are volunteers with Sunstone and are trained in Sunstone programs and services.

For more information, please call Caitlin Glass, Social Worker, at (520) 324-1907.
