"It is of value to think of health as that condition of the individual that makes possible the highest enjoyment of life. Health, when thought of simply as the absence of disease, is a standard of mediocrity, but when thought of as a quality of life is a standard of inspiration and ever-increasing
achievement.”

PLANT A MEMORY

Anyone who’s been to Sunstone’s Healing Center can attest to its beautiful, peaceful grounds. We invite you to join us in adding to that beauty while honoring the memory of all our loved ones who’ve died of cancer.

The Sunstone Memory Garden is being created to provide a place to walk, sit, and meditate in remembrance of our loved ones among a trickling fountain, serene walkways, reflective benches, and beautiful landscaping. To help create the environment we feel will honor the spirit and accessibility of this garden, we’ve been fortunate to receive generous assistance from the City of Tucson and Harlow Gardens.

Harlow Gardens will be a vital partner in this endeavor, supplying the plant(s) you select from our plant registry. The cost of your donation to the Sunstone Memory Garden is $25 per plant, which contributes to the purchase of the plant itself, installation, supplies and maintenance, as well as development of the Memory Garden.

The centerpiece of the Sunstone Memory Garden will be our Memory Wall where the names of loved ones will be engraved into individual bricks in celebration and in memoriam (if you would like to purchase a memory brick engraved to your specifications, please call us at 520.749.1928).

If you love to get your hands in the soil, there will also be a community herb garden where you can plant and pluck to your heart’s content, and the soil’s delight!

Memory Garden Will Open November 1st

Since beginning our work here at Sunstone we've celebrated a tradition called "Remembering The Dead And Celebrating All Of Life." Every November 1st the Sunstone community gathers in a poignant ceremony, filled with music and poetry, to remember and name those who have died. This year's event will be particularly special. This year, we open a door.

This year, the Memory Garden will open officially on November 1st during our annual celebration. Through the generous contribution of the Frame Hourigan Family, Sunstone has been building a Memory Garden during this past year, and it has already become a special place for reflection, memory and celebration. Carved on the Garden walls are the names of loved ones, and for some, it is the only place on earth where they are named.

The last group of names will be carved on October 1st. If you would like to have a name placed on the wall, please contact Cherie Douglass at (520) 749-1928 x104 or cdouglass@sunstonehealing.org before October 1st. Proceeds from the bricks support the ongoing work of Sunstone.
